Alinta Energy spins up AI system for executive insights

Alinta Energy has developed a multi-agent artificial intelligence system, called the Alinta Intelligent Strategic Engine (AISE), to provide executives with data-driven insights and direct access to source information. The system, built on the Databricks platform, was revealed by Brad Walker, the company's general manager of data and AI, at the Databricks Data + AI Summit 2026 in San Francisco.

Walker explained that the initiative originated from a collaboration between the CEO and CIO, who wanted to leverage the company's investment in its Databricks platform over the past six and a half to seven years. The project took four weeks and about 70 person-days to build.

AISE integrates 500 structured data metrics and over 9,000 documents, including board papers, strategy decks, and market research. A supervising agent determines the nature of each executive query and returns the appropriate result. Every response includes a confidence score, guiding executives on how much trust to place in the output: whether to make a decision based on it, treat it as directional input for thinking, or consider it generally correct but not yet reliable for critical decisions. The system also links directly to the specific document or metric from which the insight was derived.

The system is now in production, and Alinta Energy is continuing to develop AI agents for each business unit to interact with their respective metrics and documents.
